Site Safety and Health Officer
Salesville, AR
Summary – Site safety officer, will be responsible for the execution of the Health, Safety and Environmental Management System at the respective field service location. This includes establishing policies that will create and maintain a safe workplace. Identification of hazards and deviations from the management system will require ability to communicate guidelines to multidisciplinary workforces. Discovery of opportunities for improving conditions and execution of safety programs will be priority, while providing leadership to safety supervision and site safety officers.
Responsibilities –
The position includes ensuring the coordination of the steps and tasks during the phases of site completion, remobilization (between units) and eventually demobilization.
Ensure the implementation and follow-up of all local and provincial regulatory requirements, customer guidelines, prevention plans and Health, Safety and Environment management system and work methods for the smooth running of the work sites under his responsibility.
Review site-specific safe work methods using best practices from other Voith sites.
Participate in the development, implementation and maintenance of the training program for Voith employees and personnel on the job sites in accordance with the company's guidelines.
Ensure that work conducted on site by Voith personnel, union workers and subcontractors is conducted in accordance with applicable regulations.
Establish a cooperative atmosphere with the various stakeholders on the site, including Voith Hydro, our subcontractors and the client.
Act as a resource to managers, supervisors and site personnel regarding health and safety policies, procedures and practices.
Be proactive in recommending changes to improve the existing program.
Analyze and support the site in the investigation of accidents, incidents or near misses and take effective corrective and preventive action to prevent recurrence.
Inspect facilities, worker work methods and behaviors to identify areas for improvement and to prevent incidents.
Be a leader in changing the Health, Safety and Environment culture
Work closely with the company's Health, Safety and Environment managers
Qualifications –
A minimum of five (5) years of experience on construction sites as a Site Safety and Health Officer and OSHA 500 training (or equivalent training, experience).
A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a similar position on construction sites, ideally for work involving risks related to silica dust, lead paint and asbestos.
Competent Person, Fall Protection, Scaffolding, and Confined Spaces, a plus.
Knowledge of the hydro-electricity field, a plus.
Knowledge of Health, Safety and Environment regulations.
Ability to write and understand HSE procedures and ensure their proper use in practice.
Self-starter, critical thinker, team player and willingness to learn.
Ability to build trust with the site team and promote change through comprehensive risk assessment and safety data analysis.
Knowledge of personal protective equipment on job sites (working at heights, masks, etc.).
Knowledge of procedures and requirements for silica dust control, lead and asbestos.
