Job Description

Objective and Responsibility:
As a Special Inspector with expertise in geotechnical engineering, you will oversee the inspection and testing of deep foundation elements, including helical piles, ensuring compliance with NYC Building Code requirements, contract drawings, and geotechnical standards. Your role will primarily involve continuous inspection and documentation of foundation installations across various construction sites in NYC and surrounding boroughs.

Duties:

• Deep Foundation Elements: As a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) with a focus on Geotechnical Engineering, you will perform Special Inspections on-site during the installation of deep foundation elements (e.g., piles, caissons, rock sockets), ensuring compliance with design documents and building codes.
• Helical Pile Foundations: You will conduct continuous inspection during the installation of helical piles, documenting the installation process including equipment used, pile dimensions, tip elevations, final depth, installation torque, and other installation data as required by the registered design professional. Ensure that all installations comply with the approved geotechnical report and construction documents.
• Inspection Documentation: Maintain detailed records of all inspections, including installation methods, alignment, material verification, penetration depth, and compliance with code requirements for each foundation element.
• Load Testing: For projects requiring load testing of deep foundation elements, inspect and document load or reaction frame construction, equipment use, and testing procedures, ensuring that all testing methods comply with design specifications and code.
• Collaboration and Compliance: Work closely with contractors, design professionals, and stakeholders to track non-compliance issues and ensure their prompt resolution. Communicate inspection results in a timely manner to allow for corrective actions as needed.
• Additional Inspections: For installation methods not covered by standard procedures, perform additional inspections as required by the project specifications and document all results.
• Operational Support: When not conducting field inspections, assist with other project-related tasks such as research, plan reviews, and compliance verification.

Qualifications:

• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Civil, Structural, or Geotechnical Engineering.
• Experience in the inspection of deep foundation systems, including helical piles, caissons, and rock sockets.
• Knowledge of NYC Building Code requirements for geotechnical elements and foundation systems.
• Ability to document field inspections thoroughly, ensuring clarity and compliance with contract requirements.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with helical pile installations and related geotechnical inspection practices.
• Proficiency with inspection software and technology for reporting and tracking purposes
