Job Description
The Virginia Catering Company, operated by UVA Dine, is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Wait Staff Lead to oversee and direct our service teams for a variety of catering events across the University of Virginia grounds. The Wait Staff Lead will play a crucial role in ensuring exceptional guest experiences by leading event setup, service execution, and breakdown, while upholding the highest standards of professionalism and efficiency. This position requires strong leadership, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Job Responsibilities
Leadership & Supervision:
Lead, train, and supervise wait staff, ensuring adherence to service standards, policies, and procedures during events.
Provide clear direction, delegate tasks effectively, and motivate the team to deliver outstanding service.
Conduct pre-event briefings with staff to review event details, service flow, and special instructions.
Troubleshoot issues that arise during events and provide immediate solutions.
Event Execution:
Oversee and actively participate in the setup of event spaces, including table arrangements, linens, place settings, buffets, and beverage stations.
Ensure all food and beverage items are presented beautifully and served according to catering specifications and timelines.
Monitor guest satisfaction and respond promptly and courteously to any inquiries or requests.
Manage the efficient flow of service, including food delivery from the kitchen, beverage service, and table maintenance.
Supervise the breakdown and cleanup of event spaces, ensuring all equipment is properly cleaned, inventoried, and stored.
Quality & Standards:
Maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and food safety throughout all stages of an event.
Ensure staff adhere to proper uniform and grooming standards.
Uphold the reputation and service excellence of The Virginia Catering Company.
Coordination & Communication:
Liaise effectively with the Catering Operations Manager, Catering Chef, kitchen staff, and clients to ensure seamless event execution.
Communicate any issues, feedback, or special requests from clients to the appropriate management.
Complete post-event reports and provide feedback on staff performance.
Qualifications
• 1-year supervisory experience
• Desired Qualifications: - Ability to carry at least 4 meals on a tray at any given time
• Excellent Guest Service Skills and ability to work in a team environment
• Ideal candidate has a flexible schedule to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
• Enjoys working in a lively environment
• Well-groomed and professional attire (follow Aramark standards for uniform and grooming)
• TIPS/TEAM Certified
